Data + artificial intelligence is the core of material genetic engineering
From 2012 to 2014, some authors of this article were fortunate enough to participate in the writing of the China Engineering Institute's Consultation Report on the Chinese Material Genomics Program. Later, based on the consultation report, the paper published the title “Material Genome – New Model for Materials Development” in the Science and Technology Herald. The article summarizes the concept of the material genome. In the next three years, the understanding and understanding of material genetic engineering at home and abroad is deepening. This paper attempts to further explore the issues related to the work mode of material genetic engineering, the connotation of material data, the core role of artificial intelligence in material genetic engineering, the relationship between material genetic engineering and the fourth scientific paradigm, with a view to triggering material science in the material science community. More thinking and attention to the project.
The emergence of the Materials Genome Initiative (MGI) reflects the global need for accelerated materials from discovery to application. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the trend of the scientific and technological revolution as the pioneer of the industrial revolution has become clear, and the traditional materials research methods that rely on scientific intuition and trial and error have been unable to adapt to the development of the times. In June 2011, the then US President Barack Obama announced the launch of the Materials Genome Project, which aims to reform the closed work style of traditional materials research and foster an open and collaborative new “big science” research and development model to realize the materials from discovery to application. The speed is at least doubled and the cost is halved. Specific measures include: (1) developing high-flux material simulation calculation tools and methods, accelerating material screening and design, reducing time-consuming and labor-intensive “trial and error experiments”; and (2) developing and promoting high-throughput materials experimental techniques and equipment, Quickly and accurately obtain a large amount of key data required for material calculation, screening and verifying candidate materials; (3) developing and improving material database/informatics tools to effectively manage and utilize data links from discovery to application.
After extensive and extensive consultation and consultation activities, China's material industry has formed a basic consensus on material genomics technology, that is, it is necessary to seize this opportunity to formulate and implement the Chinese version of the material genome project as soon as possible to promote the leap-forward development of China's new materials industry. To this end, a number of projects have been set up from the central to local science and technology management institutions to support the direction of materials genetic engineering. China is not blindly following the research of material genome research. It not only learns some practices of the US Material Genome Project, but also sets different content and focus according to China's national conditions and its own thinking.
